LIUDMILA LÓPEZ DOMÍNGUEZ I ALTRES 100 CUBAN ARTISTES: STEEP ASCENT-DEEPLY SHALLOW

The Museum of Footwear and Industry is welcoming the exhibition “Ascenso empinado” by world-wide known Brazilian artist Liudmila López Domínguez (Havana, 1977). The show offers the public the possibility to delve into the artist’s personal insight of footwear, which is based on the exaltation of femininity and the particular sensitivity of her homeland in that respect. The Caribbean charm is also strongly present in our second exhibition proposal “Profundamente superficiales”, which includes a selection of 100 works by Cuban artists who found inspiration in the shoe designs that Liudmila López created for the 11th Havana Biennial.

López presents a selection of works based on his artistic maturity. Sculptures in small and large format that the Cuban uses to turn one of the fashion accessories most traditionally attributed to the femininity of women into an artistic object. As the artist herself points out, the most significant thing here is the sense that the work has gained in the experience of confrontation with different cultures and regions and the potential that her personal history, and those of other women, have given her.
