Screening of the documentary “Mateo” (2014) as part of the exhibition “Colombia. Tierra de luz”. Director: María Gamboa Jaramillo. Mateo, a 16-year-old boy, collects illegal fees from traders in Barrancabermeja on behalf of his uncle, leader of a criminal group. His mother disapproves of Mateo’s activities, but accepts the money he brings home out of necessity. To prove his worth, Mateo agrees to infiltrate a theatre group with the mission of exposing the political activities of its members. As he becomes fascinated by the group’s lifestyle, his uncle vehemently demands information to incriminate the actors. Mateo has no choice but to take major decisions under increasing pressure. In this true story, Mateo and his mother find dignity as they confront the established structures of Colombia’s armed conflict. The activity is free of charge and does not require prior registration.
