Presentation of the April piece of the month: “Circular pressing machine”, by shoemaker Antoni Ramis Dols. The piece will remain in the entrance hall of the Museum of Footwear and Industry for the whole month of April.

Ramis worked as a die-cutter from 1973 to 1983 at ALSA Española, a factory in Sencelles where heels, soles, middle-soles and insoles were manufactured. This machine was used to cut leather heels. The operator would place a die on the base and press the pedal in order to bring down the upper platform and firmly hit the die. As a result, a heel would be obtained from hitting the die. These parts of the shoe were produced in factories in the beginning. However, supply factories started emerging in the 1950s for the exclusive manufacture of this kind of articles.
