Mateo, a 16-year-old boy, charges extortion fees to Barrancabermeja merchants for his uncle, a criminal boss His mother disapproves of Mateo’s activities, but accepts the money he brings home out of necessity. To prove his worth, Mateo agrees to infiltrate a theatre group with the mission of exposing the political activities of its members. As he becomes fascinated by the group’s lifestyle, his uncle vehemently demands information to incriminate the actors. Mateo has no choice but to take major decisions under increasing pressure. Through this story, based on real experiences, Mateo and his mother find dignity when they face the established structures of the armed conflict in Colombia.
